1. What is the central idea of your concentration?
My concentration explores the world of editorial makeup. I wanted to explore my creativity within my photographic creativity through design. I have always been intrigued by the way makeup alters the way a person looks in many drastic ways. My use of self-portraiture and portraits, the constant lighting techniques, and simple straightforward poses were only changed by the style of makeup on their face. The strong impact of makeup in modern day society on social media has deeply inspired these images. 2. How does the work in your concentration demonstrate the exploration of your idea? You may refer to specific images as examples. In my images, I chose to use makeup to design the faces of my models. This was something that was not impossible to accomplish, yet still challenging. I wanted to show my growth of creativity that was explored throughout the process of my concentration. Images 1 and 2 contrast with 11 and 12 to show the development of skill. Images 3 to 6 demonstrate the transition between the beginning and current growth. Images 7 to 12 best exemplify my initial concept. Makeup modifies one’s look in ways that are not limited by imagination. The embodiment of traditional beauty mixed with an unusual element was my main focus throughout my concentration. The way society perceives makeup as an art form has become a controversial ideology, my images show that this concept is not that difficult to believe. In image 12 I realized the full merging of traditional 2-D art, makeup, and photography.
